Chalk one up for disgustingly adorable children - the Tokyo Anime Awards have just been handed out, and it seems that Summer Wars fellow Mamoru Hosoda has done it again. Wolf Children - Ame and Yuki took away the biggest honor: Animation of the Year.
Of course, we knew that already since they announced that win last month, but the film and its key creators made off with a number of other top honors, including Best Domestic Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Character Designer, and Best Art Direction. That's some mad props for MadHouse and the crew, and if Elliot's review is anything to go by, they were well-deserved.
Wolf Children didn't have a total monopoly on merit, though. Sword Art Online author Reki Kawahara snatched the Best Original Work award, Yoko Kanno's compositions for Kids on the Slope and Aquarion Evol earned her the Best Music award, and voice actor Yuuki Kaji's work voicing Accel World's Haruyuki and Aquarion Evol's Amata netted him the Best Voice Actor honor.
Not a bad spread, overall, especially if you're a fan of Wolf Children or Hosoda's work. If it were up to me, though, I'd have picked Accel World over Sword Art Online (if I had to keep within Reki Kawahara's oeuvre). I must have solidarity with fellow tubby characters, after all.
Who would you have picked for anime honors?
