Konami reveals Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I should be mildly miffed that Kojima Production's teasing of two projects, The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Ground Zeroes, were just now revealed to be in fact teases for the next game in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. After all, a bunch of the videos and interviews with mysterious bandaged fellows about Konami's "new IP" turned out to be a marketing bait-and-switch to get people hyped up for the further adventures of a dude named Snake. It seems the portions of the campaign related Ground Zeroes will apparently be covered in the prologue of The Phantom Pain.

But I'm not miffed, because it's a new Metal Gear Solid game! Huzzah! Check out the trailer above, if you haven't yet, and a gameplay demo below. The game's headed to current-generation consoles, and some reports also point to the PC, which would be quite a boon for me.

Sadly, longtime Metal Gear voice actor David Hayter might not actually reprise his role as Snake's voice this time around. According to our pals at Destructoid, Hayter claims he hasn't even been asked (yet). Needless to say, the internet has gone and sought to rectify that situation, post-haste.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited! Even a franchise-bound Metal Gear game typically has more creativity packed in to make a truly new IP envious, for better or worse.
