A Persona 3 movie tease emerges from the Velvet Room

Right on the heels of some good news for Atlus fans some great news for Persona fans: The upcoming anime feature film adaptation of Persona 3 is proceeding a pace, and the first installment, titled Persona 3 The Movie #1: Spring of Birth, has been officially teased via the trailer above. Besides the fact that it's prettier than the Persona 4 TV series (by virtue of being a movie instead), there's not much to go on. They play a mix of "Burn My Dread" and animate a few scenes from the opening, promising a Fall debut date.

That said, a number of cast and staff names were also released. The player-named protagonist will this time be called "Yuuki Makoto", to be voiced by Akira Ishida (Gaara and Kaworu from Naruto and Evangelion, respectively). The hero's previous "official" name (as used in the manga adaptation) was "Minato Arisato". Also performing will be:

Megumi Toyoguchi (Macross F's Klan) as Yukari

Kosuke Toriumi (Naruto's Kiba) as Junpei

Miyuki Sawashiro (Nisemonogatari's Suruga) as Elizabeth

Rie Tanaka (Gundam SEED's Lacus) as Mitsuru

Mamiko Noto (Inuyasha's Rin) as Fuuka

Hikaru Midorikawa (Gundam Wing's Heero) as Akihiko Sanada

Spring of Birth will be animated by AIC ASTA and directed by Bakuman director Noriaki Akitaya, with music from series favorite Shoji Meguro. Seiji Kishi, who directed the Persona 4 anime and is directing this spring's Devil Survivor 2 adaptation, will be stepping back to a supervisory role.

Excited yet? I certainly am, and I'm pretty curious too as to how far into the story they'll go, considering they plan a multi-movie series. Will they pull an Evangelion Rebuild and go crazy-divergent in future installments?
