The aftermath of April Fools Day's pranks can act as good fodder for yokais to terrorize the living. And coming to our aid, the people of Viz Media are going to release Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan on April 2nd for Blu-ray and DVD. Both sets will include the first 13 yokai smashing episodes on two disks, with the Blu-ray set getting the usual exclusive extras.
I wasn't able to watch Nura during its previous runs, but the premise sounds like your average yokai hunting shonen series where the young hero inherits the title of leading yokai hunting clan. Besides the usual bit, there's also an issue in the clan where the management is shattering, and our hero Nura has to deal with being a half yokai. But hey, Nura could still be a fun series, so I'm most likely wrong about this matter.
Nura's first set will cost you US $54.97/CAN $66.15, with the DVD running at US $44.82/CAN $43.24. In regards to the exclusive extras, the Blu-ray set will have a production art gallery in color, along with the mandatory clean opening and ending sequence. Whereas the DVD set only comes with the trailer for Nura's English release and the artwork from the show's production.
So to those that have watched Nura, is the series enjoyable, or did Studio DEEN do a poor job in adapting the original manga?
